Abstract: Zero-knowledge proofs have been introduced in 1985 by Goldwasser, Micali and Rackoff. Since then, they have found a large range of applications in cryptography and, more recently, in blockchain technology. In this talk we present the Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-interactive Arguments of Knowledge (zk-SNARKs), very close to the state of the art of zero-knowledge protocols for blockchain applications. Moreover, we give an overview of how zk-SNARKs are practically employed in Zcash payment system with the aim of hiding the crucial information of a transaction.
